Hi there and welcome to Best Coffee Maker Canada! We’ve had a lot of requests to take a look at the SS-700C so here is our latest Cuisinart SS-700C Single Serve Brewing System Review.

The SS-700C is advertised as a machine that will brew a single cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in less than a minute. This unit is fully programmable, features a very large reservoir (80 oz), and 100% BPA free parts. We were especially happy to read about the BPA free as BPA plastic combined with heat = bad combination!

This unit is obviously designed to go head to head with the Keurig KUB40 and in our opinion probably is the better option. You don’t have to worry about buying single serve packets (although to be fair you can get reusable filters for the Keurig as well) and there are just more features available on the SS-700C.

It also has some great features like a self cleaning chamber, hot water tap, and can be set to 5 different cup sizes.

While it all sounds really great from the manufacturer, we’re more concerned with what people are actually saying about the Cuisinart SS-700C.

Since this site is geared towards Canadians, we’ve obviously tried to find as many Canadian reviews as possible. We looked first at Consumer Reports Canada where this machine receives the top marks for single serve brewers – a very good sign! Secondly we checked Amazon.ca where there are 10 reviews that give the SS-700C an overall rating of 4.5 stars.

The first thing we noticed about almost every review is that people put the Cuisinart SS-700C heads and tails above the Keurig models. Honestly we weren’t really surprised to hear this. Many reviewers who have owned the Keurig and then switched to the SS-700C have mentioned that the Cuisinart simply works better and has more features.

In general users have great things to say about the SS-700C. Most of it is very obvious – It saves money by not wasting as much coffee, it’s quick and easy to brew a cup when you want one, it’s great for people who prefer two different types of coffee etc…

There were only a few small complaints or gripes that we could find. One reviewer mentioned that they didn’t find the water hot enough (which we found strange as many other reviewers have mentioned that the SS-700C keeps the water hotter than the Keurig models). This could be a manufacturers defect as there are no other reviews mentioning this problem.

Another complaint or more of a “gripe” is that the individual mesh filter can be a bit of a pain to clean out sometime and the reviewer suggests someone should come out with individual ‘mini filter papers’. While we’re all about saving the environment, we kind of think this would be a good idea as well!

Aside from that users rave about this machine and we strongly feel that it might be a better option than the Keurig model. We’ll probably do a comparison review in the future if our readers ask us enough!

Zojirushi isn’t a name you hear all the time so I first wanted to give you a bit of background about the company.

Basically they are a Japanese company that started out around 90 years ago and were pioneers in the glass vacuum insulation field.

Zojirushi Zutto ECDAC50 Reviews

There aren’t a great deal of user reviews on the product as of yet but the two that are there are very detailed and give the Zojirushi some excellent marks.

As for the positives in the Canadian reviews:

  • Although this product is made in China both reviewers were quite impressed with the overall build quality
  • Makes great coffee – one reviewer states that this machine makes the best coffee they have ever had! They replaced a Cuisinart which they said was a fine machine but they are able to get a very strong brew with the Zojirushi with about 20% less coffee
  • Price – the second reviewer checked all the big box as well as the various Chinese markets etc… and Amazon.ca was the best price available.

As for the negatives in the Canadian reviews:

There really aren’t any… At the end of his/her review one reviewer does mention that the metal band around the water container could be a little more sturdy.

In the American Market the Zojirushi Zutto ECDAC50 does equally as well. It has received a 4.5 star rating out of over 150 reviews which is excellent for a product in this price range.

The Hottest Coffee Makers In Canada!

Hey There,

I had a request on one of my previous reviews to do some comparisons as to what are the hottest coffee makers available. I thought this was a great idea because I love my coffee as hot as possible and I know a lot of people do as well so I’ve been out scouring in the internets, looking at forums, reading as much real information as I can to try and figure out which makers brew the hottest cup of coffee going.

After a great deal of research I’ve come to the conclusion that without actually purchasing all of these coffee makers and testing them myself it’s pretty much impossible to say for sure what the hottest ones are!

So instead of trying to guess I thought I would let you guys comment and tell me, I think it would be a very useful resource for people landing here.

Obviously if you’re landing on this page after it’s just been published then there won’t be much here but please get the discussion started, even if it’s an older maker that you’ve used before or an excellent insulated mug – ANYTHING TO DO WITH KEEPING COFFEE HOT is cool :)

Lets try and separate it into a few different categories:

One reviewer decided to buy the Bistro after researching the product thoroughly. The promise of static free grinding made the Bistro more appealing than other brands. He finds that it does fulfill it’s promise. It does not produce the same amount of mess as his previous grinder. He also concurs that the non-slippery lid is easy to hold and feels secure.

The Keurig Elite KUB40 is an excellent single serve coffee maker according to people that have bought it. It has received excellent marks from people who have reviewed it on Amazon.ca as well as many other consumer report websites. The KUB40 handles both 8 and 10 oz sizes. It has a patented one touch technology that is supposed to ensure you get precise brewing control with no messy clean-up afterwards. It will handle both regular size and travel mugs and this is a nice bonus because I always like to have a coffee at home before heading out to work with my travel mug. The two hour automatic shutoff feature is there for safety and should really help if you’re forgetful like me!

Basically it uses little packages of coffee to brew individual cups without having to deal with filter papers, grinding, measuring etc…

The Reviews

So what are the people who have actually bought and used this unit saying? Well on Amazon.ca the Keurig KUB40 has received a 5 star review with over 20 people leaving their remarks so we think it’s probably a safe bet that if you’re looking for a good single serve coffee maker this might be a good choice for you.

Out of all the reviews there were literally zero negative remarks about the Keurig aside from a few minor gripes. Basically most reviewers stated that this coffee maker does exactly what it’s supposed to do: Make a great tasting cup of coffee in under 45 seconds and it’s pretty hard to argue with that.

Reviewers have been generally very happy with the quality of coffee that the KUB40 produces. They also love the convenience factor of the K-Cups which are the pre-packaged blends that you insert into the machine.

As for complaints the most common gripe is that you do need to let the machine warm-up for about a minute before you can start making coffee. If you like to have a few cups throughout the morning you can just leave it running and it will keep the water hot but you will need to warm it up for a minute or so when you first wake up. One reviewer suggests turning it on and then going to wash your face and it will be ready by the time you’re done!

Other reviewers have mentioned that they still use their main coffee maker in the morning so they can have lots ready and then use the Keurig for when someone wants an afternoon cup and doesn’t want to make a whole pot.

Based on the excellent reviews this unit has received we think that the Keurig Elite Single Serve Brewer KUB40 would make an excellent choice if you’re looking for a single serve coffee maker.
